During the Spring 2020 semester, I completed my student teaching semester in the fourth grade classroom at Deubrook Elementary School in Toronto, South Dakota.
During this semester, I completed classroom instruction and distance learning instruction. I collaborated with my cooperating teacher on instructional strategies and classroom management. I also planned and taught a math unit focusing on fractions, which included independent practice opportunities, projects for students to apply knowledge, and technology tools to create and visualize fractions. I also facilitated an informative writing unit with mini-lessons focusing on specific steps in the writing process.

Practicum Experience
First Grade Classroom- Dakota Prairie Elementary School
During the Fall 2019 semester, I completed practicum hours in a first grade classroom at Dakota Prairie Elementary in Brookings, South Dakota.
During these hours, I observed and assisted with small and large group instruction, classroom management, and student-led parent teacher conferences. I also wrote and implemented my own lesson plans in reading, writing, and math. One of these lessons was a reading and writing activity to enrich those skills for a small group RTI, I planned a math lesson with small group instruction of a strategy and centers for the remaining students. One focus of this experience was completing a series of reading lessons with an individual student. I completed and analyzed a running record as both a pre-assessment and post-assessment and planned lessons to teach reading strategies.

Three & Four Year Old Classroom- Fishback Center for Early Childhood Education
For the Fall 2018 semester, I was a student teacher in the three and four year old classroom at the Fishback Center for Early Childhood Education.
The Fishback Center is located on SDSU campus. I worked in a group of four student teachers throughout the semester. As a team of teachers, we took turns planning the weekly learning centers in areas such as quiet writing, art, dramatic, play, science/nature, and sensory table. I had a small group of four children; I did home visits with the students and their parents, set goals in developmental domains for each child, created a portfolio for each student to showcase progress in development, and conducted parent-teacher conferences. In this small group, I facilitated a small group inquiry investigation about season and plants.
